An ancient art in a modern age

The therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy are well established - based upon clinical research, the testimony of countless adherents, and the recorded use of essential oils for purposes of well-being for some 6000 years.

The use of such oils for cosmetic, medical, and even magical application can be traced back to any number of ancient civilisations including the Egyptians, the Chinese, the Ancient Greeks, the Romans, and the Asian and pan-Arabian empires. The therapeutic properties of the lotions and potions may not have been fully understood in those times, but their remedial purposes and contribution towards well-being were certainly recognised and acted as pre-cursor to the use of natural extracts in modern-day medicine.

The regeneration of aromatherapy in the modern age can be traced to France in the early 1920s and the adoption of the word into our current lexicon goes back to the late 1940s - a time when Madame Micheline Arcier and her contemporaries were becoming intrigued by the benefits of this form of alternative therapy.

Today, in an age when many medical experts advocate the inherent link between physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, true aromatherapy has an increasingly influential role in the promotion of holistic health.
