A pioneering spirit that lives on

A pioneer of true aromatherapy, Madame Micheline Arcier was an early advocate of holistic well-being - developing exclusive products and signature aromatherapy massage techniques that treated each client as a complex but complete individual.
The success of this approach, and her own endless enthusiasm for further evolution, saw her develop a highly-regarded private practice and - ultimately – the 1981 establishment of her aromatherapy clinic and salon in Knightsbridge,London. A quarter of a century later, those premises - and their reputation for excellence - remain a landmark site on London's holistic healthcare map.

Today, the company that still bears her name remains true to Madame Arcier's holistic philosophy whilst ensuring that its essential aromatherapy offering is totally in tune with 21st century needs. Preserving the past but ever-ready to embrace the future, today’s Micheline Arcier aromatherapy continues to evolve its core range of bath oils, body oils and face oils and creams and treatments with the needs of you - our respected clients - always at the forefront of our thinking…

As one of the pioneers of aromatherapy, the Micheline Arcier company has always taken the use of essential oils very seriously. Its face, bath and body oils are blended in house using the highest quality ingredients and the newly designed packaging is super-chic. Your skin and senses will benefit from every application and their bespoke treatments set the standard for an aromatherapy experience.” (Vogue: February 2007)

Roots

Modern or true aromatherapy - the use of essential oils for the promotion of holistic well-being - was pioneered in the 1950s by Marguerite Maury, an Austrian biochemist. Madame Maury felt that their external application could be especially beneficial, and she therefore developed the early massage techniques from which today's aromatherapy derives. Her treatments were initially designed for skin rejuvenation but her clients reported many additional benefits such as better sleep, pain relief and general well-being.

Such results inspired Madame Maury to write about her work and pass down her 'hands-on' knowledge to a select group of aromatherapy students at her private practice in London. Madame Micheline Arcier was a student - one of the very few people to work at this pioneering salon and to be trained personally by Marguerite Maury. As such Madame Arcier's own aromatherapy expertise, and the legacy she leaves, not only has its roots in nature (and its inherent powers), but can be traced directly to one of the true 'godmothers' of this alternative therapy...
